We believe its purpose is to create a learning, praying, serving, and relating Christian Educational Community for our children, both Catholic and non-Catholic.
We believe the purpose of education is to foster an individual's intellectual, spiritual, physical, and emotional grown according to his or her uniqueness.
We believe the parents are the primary educators. Together, teachers and parents continue the life preparation of their children.
We believe the children have an active role in their education and are expected to participate in the learning process appropriate to their developmental level.
We believe that St. Matthias / Transfiguration School provides a stable and caring atmosphere. The staff is sensitive to factors outside the school which may affect the needs and behavior of individuals and groups.
We believe St. Matthias / Transfiguration School is an integral part of the parish and local community.
St. Matthias / Transfiguration offers a comprehensive education from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Students are grouped by ability for reading and math and heterogeneously in other areas. Cross-curricular activities in social studies, language arts, and science facilitate a greater understating and appreciation of the subject matter. Religion is integrated throughout the entire program. In addition to a strong emphasis on the basics, the St. Matthias / Transfiguration curriculum offers a number of enrichment activities such as art appreciation, music, and physical education.
Beginning in kindergarten, students have weekly computer classes that will prepare them to function well in the expanding world of technology. Students also may choose from a range of extracurricular activities, including sports and musical programs. Our Extended Care program offers parents a safe and affordable option for child care before and after school hours.
Because we believe that parents are the child's primary educators, we encourage parental involvement at all levels - whether it be serving on the school board, participating in Market Day and other fund-raising activities, or working with indivudual teachers to ensure the child's progress and well-being. Working together, students, teachers, and parents form a cummunity in which children can learn and thrive.
To prepare our students to function effectively in a constantly changing world, we help them to develop a sense of responsibility, a positive attitude, a concern for others, spiritual growth, individuality and adaptibility to change. Each child is unique, and our curriculum is designed to foster his or her special qualities.
Winner of the U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Excellence Aware, St. Matthias / Transfiguration School is accredited by the Illinois Board of Education and the Archdiocese of Chicago.
