Spooky Sports Day
Rather than have a sugar-filled Halloween Party, St. Matthias School children will participate in athletic challenges on the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 29. Kindergarten through 8th grade children will celebrate Spooky Sports Day.
The sports event is a way for all children to participate in a physical competition and to avoid the traditional sugar-filled Halloween party at school. The school supports the belief that with childhood obesity on the increase, physical activity with children will develop habits that will lead to a healthy lifestyle.
The children will compete in games, relays and challenges to win the coveted Mustang Cup. The day is an extension of last spring’s Sports Day, presented by the sports board. The children are divided into “houses”, four teams of all age groups, to participate in the events. The house with them most points at the end will win the trophy.
